Come From Away was originally co-produced in 2015 by La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle Repertory Theater and presented in 2016 by Ford’s Theatre.
Even in the darkest moments, people have an extraordinary capacity for kindness. On September 11, 2001, U.S. airspace was closed, leaving thousands of passengers on 38 planes unexpectedly grounded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland. The result? A true story of strangers opening their homes, and their hearts, to people from around the world. Filled with stirring music, humor and hope, Come From Away is a reminder that, even in times of tragedy, kindness can unite.
While audiences may come expecting a story about a day that changed the world, what they discover is something much more personal. Come From Away celebrates the generosity, resilience and unexpected friendships that blossomed over five unforgettable days. It is a story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things, not because they had to, but because it was simply the right thing to do.
Town Theatre is especially honored to open its 107th Season with this remarkable musical. At a time when the world often feels divided, Come From Away reminds us of what can happen when compassion takes center stage. The production’s fast-paced storytelling, inventive staging and soaring folk-inspired score invite audiences to laugh, reflect and celebrate the enduring power of community.
Bringing this story to life is an outstanding cast of 12 actors with faces you have seen on our stage including Megan Anderson (The Little Mermaid), Emily Banks (The Secret Garden), Jeremy Hansard (Mary Poppins), Jennifer Kraus (Beautiful), Paul Lindley (Something Rotten), Michael Seezen (The Play That Goes Wrong), Rebecca Seezen (Anything Goes) and Jerimy Woodall (A Christmas Carol: The Musical). And we are so pleased to welcome Raymond Elling, Brianna Grant, Inaara Jadavji and Jacob Kirby in their Town Theatre mainstage debuts. These brilliant actors portraying more than 80 characters, seamlessly transforming from Newfoundlanders to airline passengers with remarkable energy and heart.
