“Feed me, Seymour! Feed me NOW!”
Town Theatre concludes our 106th season with the wildly popular Off-Broadway hit, Little Shop of Horrors. This affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi films drops audiences into Skid Row, where an unusual plant with a taste for blood turns one man’s luck, and the fate of humanity, upside down.
A clumsy skid row floral assistant, Seymour Krelborn, played by Nathan Jones (Spamalot), becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. His fellow employee, and secret love, is Audrey, taken by Kayla Nagy Welch (White Christmas). Together they convince the shop owner, Mr. Mushnik, portrayed by Jeffrey Sigley (Kiss Me, Kate) to attract business by displaying a new plant. Keeping a watchful (and somewhat sadistic) eye on things is Orin, the sadistic dentist, in the hands of Town newcomer Brady Bramlett. Narrating the action are the Urchins, Brittany Clark, in her Town debut, Ivy Munnerlin (The Sound of Music) and Yvee Willis (Beauty and the Beast). A dynamic ensemble played by Lilia Barfield and Kelsey Graham (both from Grease) with Thomas Bozard, in his first Town Theatre appearance. And we can’t forget the plant! Audrey II is so massive that she has the talents of Thomas Sowell (Cinderella) as her voice and Scott Vaughan (The Music Man) as her body. With tongue firmly planted in cheek, this charming, tuneful and hilarious musical is an overwhelming crowd-pleaser.
The show is directed by Shannon Willis Scruggs with music direction by Michael Simmons and choreography by Roxanne Livingston Rich. Scenic design is by Bob Bramhall with technical direction and lighting design by Jeremy Hansard. Costume design is by Dell Goodrich, props by Gina Janvrin and stage management by Chelsey Art.
