Let’s go! Summer camp is in full swing ~ virtual AND in person options for ALL ages. A limited number of camp scholarships are available. Students in need of scholarship assistance (including sibling discounts and multiple camp sign ups) should email Shannon Scruggs (shannon@towntheatre.com) to apply!

Town Theatre will abide by all City and State regulations in regard to COVID. Please review our COVID specific policies and procedures for summer campers here.

July 13-17

Scene It! with Corey (VIRTUAL)
“All you need to paint is a few tools, a little instruction, and a vision in your mind.” Come learn what it takes to develop the beautiful scenes and views that you see on the Town Theatre stage. Using the production of Shrek as our template, artists will go through the process of scenic design from start to finish. We’ll even show you some of the “tricks of the trade” as you create five separate scenic designs for The Little Mermaid. This camp will be led by Assistant Technical Director and scenic artist, Corey Langley.

  • 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM Monday through Friday
  • Limited to 10 students – 4th grade to 7th grade
  • $125 class fee (includes supplies)

Tech Time with Danny (IN PERSON)
Here’s your chance to step into the technical side of theatre. Join us as we create and research how to mount a theatrical production from the ground up (literally!). Using models, sketching techniques, floor plans and some general carpentry skills, our goal will be to create a finished scale scenic design of a production. This camp is perfect for the performer who wishes to explore the technical side of theatre or the crew personnel who is always wondering how it all came to be. The class will be led by Town Theatre Technical Director, Danny Harrington.

  • 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday
  • Limited to 8 students – 6th grade to 12th grade
  • $150 class fee (includes supplies)

TikTok Broadway Style (IN PERSON)
Let’s get moving and learning some of the very best and hip moves from TikTok, but with a Broadway twist! Join Town Theatre choreographer Kristy O’Keefe as she teaches you some of your favorite TikTok moves to popular musical theatre songs from shows such as Mamma Mia, Matilda, Hairspray and Waitress.

    • 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday through Friday
    • Limited to 8 students in person – 5th grade to 9th grade

Closet Cosplay for the Big Kids!!! (Virtual)
Do you love costumes, wigs and makeup? Do you love being a character? Do you wish every weekend could be Halloween?! Then this class is for you!  Cosplay is self-created costumes and character work that will make you your own one-man show with the ability to make your own costume, create a believable character, and confidence in presenting and sharing your work! It’s a little bit theatre, a little bit entrepreneurial spirit, and a whole lot of fun! This class will be led by theatre artist and cosplay queen, Shelby Sessler. 

    • 6:00 PM to 7:15 PM Monday through Friday
    • Limited to 10 students – 12th grade and UP!

July 20-24

Town’s Triple Threat (IN PERSON)
Sing ~ dance ~ and act! You can have it all! Join us for an intense (yet extremely rewarding!) camp for students who are eager to explore performing on a regular basis and perhaps even study theatre in high school and/or college. We’ll spend our days developing performance pieces (scenes as well as musical theatre selections) that focus on the whole performer (vocals, movement and character). Enjoy learning from diverse faculty who have expertise in their focus area including Erica Cooper, Kathy Seppamaki, Christy Shealy Mills, Megan Douthitt and Shannon Scruggs. An end-of-week showcase will be filmed to allow students to present their hard to work to friends and family. Students will be divided into three groups of no more than eight students each so that each student has sufficient space to socially distance. Teachers will rotate to work with the students and the students will remain in the same location throughout the duration of camp.

  • 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Friday (lunch break will be taken; students must provide own food and drink)
  • Rising 5th grade to rising 10th grade – students will be divided into 3 groups of no more than 8 students each so that each student has sufficient space to socially distance.
  • $300 class fee

    A Star is Born (VIRTUAL)
    Do you sing everywhere you go? Is life a constant play and you are the star? Then come join us as we explore musical theatre productions and learn how to create our own performance including voice, movement and character development. By the end of the week, we’ll have a show ready for friends and family including songs and scenes from some of your favorite Broadway shows. Scott Vaughan will lead this energetic camp – you will have so much fun that you won’t even realize you are working through a computer screen.
    • 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Monday through Friday
    • Limited to 10 students – rising K to rising 4th grade
    • $75 class fee

Music Makers with Hannah (VIRTUAL)
Interested in learning more about how to make music with your voice? Come learn from voice instructor and star of the stage, Hannah Thompson. This class is ideal for students in 4th to 7th grade who are interested in private voice study and looking to transition to the next level. Students will learn to use the voice properly and acquire techniques that will stay with them as their voice grows and matures. They will focus on how to learn a song, as well as, incorporating character development within a song. The camp will involve small group work and individual sessions. Each student will have the opportunity to work group numbers that will be recorded as well as a vocal solo from a Broadway show. A week’s end showcase will be available to parents and families illustrating the fun we’ve had! Students who participated in this camp the week of July 6 can participate a second time as the content will be different.

  • 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM Monday through Friday with a 30-minute lesson
  • Limited to 8 students – 4th grade to 7th grade
  • $125 class fee (or $100 for students who also take Music Makers the week of July 6!)

July 27-31

Make ‘Em Laugh (VIRTUAL)
Let’s “Make ‘Em Laugh” as we create musical theatre scenes using the well-loved stories, poems and jokes of Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein. An original performance guaranteed to draw out the belly laugh in all of us will take place at week’s end. Scott Vaughan will lead this energetic camp – you will have so much fun that you won’t even realize you are working through a computer screen.

“Super Happy Awesome News” (VIRTUAL)
Sibling rivalry finds Joey and Parker competing to see who can deliver the happiest news to their online viewers! They have mastered how to put a positive spin on everything, but then an interview opens their eyes to the reality that everything is not sunshine and rainbows in the lives of their viewers. Ultimately, they learn that sharing their feelings allows people to connect with each other and can help even more than the happiest news stories, especially during these uncertain times. The second of its kind, Super Awesome Happy News is an original musical created by Beat by Beat press to be rehearsed and performed virtually!

Get On Your Feet! (IN PERSON)
Time to shake off those COVID blues and get moving to some of Broadway’s greatest hits. Join Town Theatre choreographer Kristy O’Keefe as she teaches you some amazing choreography from musical theatre. By week’s end, you will have several new dances to impress your friends!

Ongoing Opportunities

Open Theatre (throughout the summer)
Rising 5th through 12th grade ~ By Appointment Only
Want to brush up on your performance skills, prepare for an upcoming audition or work on *that* song? Interested in building your musical theatre muscles with some of the best? This is the place for you! Schedule an appointment with our faculty for some one-on-one training. Call the theatre to discuss your needs and we’ll develop a plan for you. You can select any number of 30-minute or 60-minute sessions based upon your goals. E-mail for rates. 

Life is a Cabaret (throughout the summer)
For 9th to 12th grade only
Developing and performing in your own cabaret is a performer’s dream. The student will be matched with a mentor to help develop a cabaret which will be performed at summer’s end at Town Theatre or at another location within the community. This opportunity is designed for the seasoned student performer who can work independently after consultation with his or her cabaret mentor. The student will also work with theatre management on marketing his or her event as well as spend time with an accompanist in preparation for cabaret. This opportunity is limited to 5 participants. The fee will cover rights and royalties, music acquisition as well as stipends for the mentor and accompanist. Fee: $300
