Fall 2020 Youth Theatre Enrollment
Classes (in person and virtual) include:
- Performance Pals – Kindergarten through 3rd grade – Monday or Wednesday from 5:15 PM – 6:45 PM
- Town Stars – 4th grade to 12th grade – Tuesday or Thursday from 5:15 PM – 6:45 PM
Students will be placed with their own group of “Performance Pals” or “Town Stars” that will stay together for the 8-week program. Teams will meet once a week to create a presentation that will either be 1) performed on the Town stage following all of the rules and regulations for performing arts facilities OR 2) performed outside in one of a variety of venues. Performance dates will be scheduled closer to time of the show, but we anticipate hosting these November 5-8.
About the groupings:
Once we see the full roster of students who wish to participate, we will place the students on the appropriate group. Team size will be determined by the space where the team meets but no group will be larger than 10. Siblings will be kept together if possible. Performance selections will be made after rosters are set but we anticipate selecting shorter, smaller cast productions.
What Will My Student Be Doing?
Each team will continue their vocal, dramatic and musical theatre dance training. Anticipating that students have been sitting for most of their day, we will work to have students moving and active while spatially distanced (in person option). Per the City and State, students will need to wear masks into the theatre and during class. At the end of the 8-week period, students will have a small group musical theatre performance ready to delight!
When Can My Student Take Class in Person?
Teams will meet one time per week with class options as follows. When enrolling please select the ONE DAY for your age group:
~Performance Pals: Monday and Wednesday from 5:15 PM to 6:45 PM
~Town Stars: Tuesday and Thursday from 5:15 PM to 6:45 PM
Students who wish to participate but who are not comfortable coming to the theatre can elect to participate in our virtual setting. The class works the same as in IN PERSON option but will be conducted via Zoom instead of face to face.
Students will be placed in a group and will stay together for the 8-week program. Teams will meet once a week to create a presentation that is filmed and presented via Zoom or Town Theatre’s YouTube channel. Performance dates will be scheduled closer to time of the show, but we anticipate hosting these the first week of November.
When Can My Student Take Class Virtually?
Teams will meet one time a week with class options as follows. When enrolling please select ONE DAY for your age group:
~Performance Pals: Monday and Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 5:15 PM
~Town Stars: Tuesday and Thursday from 5:15 PM to 6:30 PM
Performance Pal and Town Stars fees for the 8-week program is $180.
What happens if COVID numbers go up, the schools close or someone in my child’s theatre class tests positive for COVID?
For any of our classes, the theatre is prepared to transition to a virtual setting if needed. Because groups are small and will be separated, in the case of a student testing positive for COVID, the class itself – and not the entire program – can be transitioned. Town will follow DHEC guidance on these protocols.
Parents – we know this is a challenging time and have worked to create a few options to offer your child the much-needed musical theatre training they crave! If you have ANY QUESTIONS, please do not hesitate to contact Shannon Willis Scruggs, Executive Director, at email@example.com. Please note Performance Pals and Town Stars will start as an 8-week session as compared to our normal 12-week offering.
For those returning students who were in Mary Poppins Jr., it is still our intention to do this show when we can safely do so. We obviously would need to schedule rehearsal time which would have to be OUTSIDE of the Fall 2020 class schedule. As soon as we know more, we promise to share details with you.
To help us determine the appropriate number of faculty that we will need, we ask that you register your child no later than August 24. Classes will begin the week of September 14.
Town also has two other youth theatre groups that are offered by audition or invitation only. They are for students with significant experience who are able and willing to put in more preparation time, including time at home, than our traditional offerings. If you have questions about these, please contact Shannon Scruggs at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Town Tweens – BY AUDITION or INVITATION ONLY – Tuesday or Thursday – 4th to 8th grade
- Town Teen Troupe – BY AUDITION, INVITATION or PAST MEMBERSHIP – Sundays –
